Location
InclusEd is an alternative provision in south Norfolk that provides small group academic support to children and young people from the local area. We support those who are electively home educated, educated otherwise than at school, on a part time timetable, flexi-schooled or are facing barriers to learning.
We do not have our own premises (learning takes place in a community setting) and we currently utilise hired premises in Thetford.
Our programme is designed to complement other education services utilised by our learners as we are not a full-time provision.
Mixed-age learning
Our groups cover all ages, and our learners work alongside others from different year groups. The teachers, and learners themselves, help differentiate curriculum content to suit age, stage and aptitude, while maintaining a sense of cooperative learning. Places at InclusEd are limited as we keep groups small to encourage cooperative learning.
ASDAN programmes
InclusEd offers bespoke learning programmes to all learners, and as we are registered with ASDAN (centre number 40747) we can provide access to their programmes, including their Short Courses and Lifeskills Challenge programme. Cross-curricular
We are not a registered school, but we do follow a structured learning timetable that covers National Curriculum subjects and topics in science, history, and geography.
Children aged 9 – 16 years old
We adhere to NSPCC recommended adult to child ratios of one adult to eight children for children aged 9 – 12 years old. We will not accept a child who is not already 9 years old.
This age range falls into what theorist Piaget terms the ‘concrete operational stage’. This is the third stage in his theory of cognitive development, and is a time frame that spans middle childhood, from around age 7 to approximately age 11 / 12. It is a stage characterised by the emergence of logical thought. At this stage of development children are becoming aware of concrete and specific things, need structured support with abstract ideas. Smaller group sizes allow for teacher and adult support when needed at this crucial developmental stage. This age range encompasses years 5 and 6 (Upper KS2) and years 7 and 8 (Lower KS3).
We do accept learners up to age 16, where we can meet need.
We predominantly support those at Entry Level and Level 1, and our learners work towards ASDAN short course certificates.
Individualised learning
We tailor our education to meet the needs, skills and interests of our learners. No two blocks of learning will look the same!
SEN Support
We see all behaviour as communication, and meet learners where they are, in order to support them to get to where they want to be. We are able to support children with Communication and Interaction (C&I) needs, providing support for learners to help develop and maintain relationships, understanding and managing their emotions, developing the skills and tools to communicate with others, particularly those who have a different neurology.
Cost of sessions
Special Education Need (SEN) Places
SEN places are:
- Allocated by school or Local Authority referral only.
- Charged at £40 pp per hour. Sessions ordinarily run for 4 hours per day, and are booked in advance, in blocks of 6 weeks.
- Fully funded by the referring organisation. These places have no cost to parent/carers as all fees are paid by the school or Local Authority who has referred them. If you would like to be considered for a fully funded place, please ask your school or Local Authority to contact us to make a referral.
SEN places include regular liaison with referring organisation, writing and maintain Individual Learning Plans, recorded observations and assessments, and end of placement report writing.
Elective Home Education (EHE) Places
EHE places are:
- Applied for by the parent/carer
- Charged at £20 pp per hour. Sessions ordinarily run for 4 hours per day, but if you require flexibility for your placement, please ask and, where possible, we will meet your family’s needs.
- Booked and paid in advance, in blocks of 6 weeks.
EHE places do not come with observation / report writing services. If you need these services, this will be charged at the SEN rate, as indicated above, at £40 pp per hour.
Mentoring
InclusEd can offer 1:1 mentoring tailored to individuals for the purpose of transition support.
Transition support
Many children and young people find the change of starting or moving to a new school or setting difficult. We can help prepare your child for this change by providing a stepping-stone approach to help them micro-manage this big change.
How we work
As this service is bespoke it is difficult to quantify and will look very different for each child, however, some of the things we can support with include:
- Developing independence
- Preparation in the current setting
- Communicating with staff on your behalf
- Planning visits and phased entry
Online ASDAN moderation
Online ASDAN moderation
InclusEd (ASDAN registered centre number 40747) can provide online moderation for distance learners working on ASDAN Short Courses or the ASDAN Lifeskills Challenge.
We are able to set up learner Short Course e-portfolios and Lifeskills Challenge learner registrations, and we can moderate work completed to accredit learner achievements (fees apply).
Please note, while can and do support home learners and educational settings in managing and administering these ASDAN programmes, responsibility for devising, delivering, overseeing and reporting programme content and progress remains with the parent and/or setting, as relevant.
