Learning your way

InclusEd provides a part-time educational service for children who do not or cannot attend school. Children may be Electively Home Educated (EHE) by parental choice or may currently be unable to access school because of exclusion, illness or other reasons that prevent them from attending.

Why use us?

We are registered with ASDAN (centre number 40747) so can offer learners opportunities to accredit their learning, working at their own level and pace whatever their ability or stage.
Our cross-curricular courses enable learners to develop transferable enquiry skills and wholistic knowledge
Our focus on social and communication skills grows our learners’ self-esteem and confidence
Working alongside others from different year groups is a more realistic representation of “the real world”
Learners are encouraged to develop their understanding of their own learning style and to further their own interests
We do not have a uniform or strict behaviour policies that create barriers to learning
We understand C&I needs, and see all behaviour as communication

InclusEd is an Alternative Provision that is free from many of the difficulties that cause barriers to learning, such as uniform, rigid timetables, large numbers of people, frequent transitions etc. We differ from most other APs, such as forest schools, animal-assisted farms etc., as we are predominantly an indoor setting. Our reduced social and sensory demands help our SEN learners access educational programmes at their own pace, and our EHE learners enjoy the opportunity for academic based social interaction and collaborative learning.

Learners attend our provision part-time, with the rest of their education taking place at their usual setting. For EHE children, the responsibility for the remainder of their education remains with their parent/carer. For children referred by schools or Local Authorities, the referrer retains responsibility for the remainder of the child’s education

Our Courses

Are varied and individualised (course structure and topics)

We have an overarching three-year rolling curriculum to present a variety of history, geography and STEM topics to our learners to help them scaffold their personal learning choices.

Our learning is cross-curricular; we adopt a themed based approach to learning, amalgamating traditional subjects into topical studies.

Are community based

We do not have our own premises (learning takes place in a community setting) and we currently utilise premises in Mildenhall, catering for many learners, including those who travel from Brandon, Bury St Edmunds, Lakenheath, Newmarket, Red Lodge, Stowmarket, and Thetford.

Support home education

Weekly classroom based learning provides those from home educating and home schooling families with an opportunity for social interaction and shared learning. Our setting can support learning that is ongoing at home as learners direct the focus of their studies themselves, creating personalised study topics based around their own interests.

Support Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Our provision alleviates many sensory issues for learners as we do not have uniform or strict behaviour policies that create barriers to learning. We provide sensory stimulating equipment and a calm space, for those sensory seeking moments and those sensory avoidant moments. We understand C&I needs and see all behaviour as communication. We seek to meet our learners where they are at and foster a sense of community, understanding and compassion within our sessions.

Teach life skills

During their time with us, learners will examine and report on a cross-curricular line of enquiry in a manner that is equally concerned with the process of learning as it is with the final physical outcome. While they are with us, children will also develop social and communication skills, and they will grow in self-esteem and confidence.

Develop social skills

Our learners work alongside others from different year groups. We do not split up children by age or year group. The teacher and the learners themselves help differentiate curriculum content to suit age, stage and aptitude, all as part of cooperative learning.

Grow autonomy

Learners are encouraged to develop a line of enquiry for themselves and are strongly encouraged to bring resources from home to share and use each week to support their learning and that of the rest of the group.

Celebrate achievement

At the end of the six-week block we will hold ‘Learning Presentations’. This is a session to celebrate individual and group learning, however, the focus of learning is on the journey and not the destination. There is no “exam” or “test” and the presentation is informal and, just like the rest of the sessions, relaxed and child-led. It is a chance for a ‘show and tell’ of learning achieved.

What our customers say about us

I can’t endorse InclusEd in one paragraph. My previously reluctant learner has flourished since beginning our EHE journey and beginning with InclusEd. Not only in his Science knowledge, but also his confidence in his own abilities and his enthusiasm to learn more and be present at his lessons. My (Year 9) son thrives on the interaction and personal way his Science lesson is now taught. He enthuses when he leaves and wants to tell me in detail about the activities they’ve completed and what he’s learnt from them. Abi had dedicated her time to understanding not only how the education system works, helped by her years as being a teacher, but also about how children learn best, which is often outside of the classroom environment. It is this understanding, coupled with her compassionate understanding of children and their needs, which makes her a fantastic alternative education provider who is able to help children learn at their own pace and using their own interests.

Abi is incredibly knowledgeable about the EHCP process and works tirelessly to pursue the support needed for young people. This is aided by her incredible organisational skills – if you need someone to do the job properly, then she’s your gal! On top of this, Abi is kind and patient with young people with all kinds of needs, hence the aptness of the name InclusEd.

Abi is such an amazing teacher. She takes her time to truly know the children and how they learn. She moves with how they work vs how traditional school says they are supposed to be. I would highly recommend Abi’s alternative education provision. Abi has many years’ experience working as a mainstream school teacher along with a vast array of experience with SEN to include her own children. Abi understands first hand why the standard education system does not meet the needs of all children, so using both her knowledge and experiences she is able to create a unique, relevant and meaningful learning environment that is developed around the children she has at any given moment. Abi is patient, adaptable, nurturing and extremely resourceful in putting the child’s needs first. I have seen Abi deal with many different situations with calmness and a professional but approachable manner, I wouldn’t hesitate to leave my children in Abi’s capable hands.

My two eldest children have been coming to InclusEd for a year now. They have settled in with the support and dedication from both Abi and George. Abi and George are committed and go above and beyond to ensure the children’s individual needs are met, they are happy and that good communication is maintained to support the children. Abi gets to know the child as an individual and teaches curriculum content in a way that works them. George understands hidden difficulties and differences and supports my children to achieve things they could not do in any other setting. I would recommend InclusEd for any child but particularly those that struggles to learn in a school environment. One of my children has severe school related trauma and emotional based school avoidance and the progress he has made this year with InclusEd had been amazing. He actually now enjoys going which says everything to me.
